Online Scenario

In the online scenario, the user’s Desktop/laptop is connected to the internet and can reach Okta cloud.

Online authentication can be performed in 2 ways:

  1. The user needs to be in physical possession of the smart card, proximity card or security key. The security can be further enhanced by adding PIN or Okta Verify or both as additional factors.
  2. Support for following Okta factors:
  • Okta verify
  • SMS
  • Voice
  • Custom TOTP
  • Google Authenticator
  • Yubikey
  • RSA SecureID
  • Security Question

Offline Scenario

In the offline scenario, the user’s Desktop/laptop is not connected to the internet and cannot reach Okta cloud.

In this scenario, Credenti Tap-N-Go will perform the primary and secondary authentication. For secondary authentication, there are below options:

  • PIN: The PIN which is set in online mode can be used in offline as well
  • TOTP: Okta Verify app is leveraged. The OTP generated by the Okta Verify App will have to be entered during the 2 Factor prompt. The user will have to scan a QR code using the Okta Verify app on first login to complete the enrollment process for offline 2 Factor authentication.
  • U2F (Universal 2nd Factor): Security keys like Yubikey is used in U2F mode

Credenti Tap-N-Go Kiosk Mode - Enrollment

  • Step 1. An Unrolled user walks up to a machine running in Kiosk mode (running under a service account already logged in).
  • Step 2. User taps the card or fingerprint scans Credenti Tap-N-Go will detect that the user is not enrolled and will provide on screen prompts to complete the enrollment and associate the card or biometric with the authenticated Okta user.
  • Step 3. SSO Thick Client and Web apps, assigned in Okta, are displayed in the TecUNIFY dashboard
  • Step 4. Auto launch configured apps with SSO

Credenti Tap-N-Go Kiosk Mode – Authentication

  • Step 1. Enrolled users walk up to a machine running in Kiosk mode (running under a service account already logged in). User taps the card or fingerprint scans

Desktops with Windows 10 for deploying Credenti Tap-N-Go Credential Provider (CP). The CP can be deployed through GPO or any configuration management tools like SCCM, Intune, etc.

Does offline enrollment with the Okta Verify app conflict with my account enrolled with Okta?

No, during offline enrollment, the new account gets registered with the Okta Verify app.

How do I install Credenti Tap-N-Go ?

Credenti Tap-N-Go supports silent installation or installation via GPO or any standard software distribution tools like Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager.

What do Okta users need to use Credenti Tap-N-Go?

Credenti Tap-N-Go is developed on Okta's MFA framework and leverages on the policies and factors (Okta Verify) configured in Okta. The requirements from end-user perspective are, access to a Desktop with Credenti Tap-N-Go Windows Credential Provider installed and a smartcard or security key, and a proximity card with a compatible reader.
